OUR PROGRAMMES

1

PHYSICAL LITERACY PROGRAMME

Learn to Move. Learn to Train.

Our Physical Literacy Programme is the foundation of Boroughmuir's Athletic Performance Pathway and introduces young players to Strength & Conditioning in a fun, engaging and supportive environment. The focus isn't on lifting heavy weights. Instead, players develop the fundamental movement skills that underpin long-term athletic success. Sessions are designed to help young athletes move better, improve coordination, develop confidence and learn correct movement patterns before progressing into more advanced training. Players will develop: Movement quality  Coordination and balance  Running mechanics  Jumping and landing skills  Core stability  Speed and agility  Gym technique and confidence  Athleticism for rugby and all sports  By establishing these foundations early, players become more confident movers, better athletes and are well prepared for the next stages of their athletic development. Open to all players. Age Groups P6  P7  U13-U15 Boys & Girls  Training Times Wednesday P6: 4:00–5:00pm  U13: 5:00–6:00pm  Friday P7: 4:00–5:00pm

PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (PDP)

Accelerating Athletic Development

The Player Development Programme (PDP) is designed for identified players within the Boroughmuir pathway who demonstrate the potential to accelerate their rugby and athletic development. Player identification follows the principles of the Scottish Rugby Blueprint, creating a development environment for athletes ready to progress beyond the foundations of Physical Literacy and begin training with greater intent and purpose. Players complete two Strength & Conditioning sessions alongside an integrated rugby skills session each week. Through our partnership with MySynergyCoach, every athlete receives access to an individualised, position-specific Strength & Conditioning programme via the MySynergyCoach App. As players begin to specialise in their positions, their training reflects the physical demands of the game, ensuring forwards and backs develop the athletic qualities required to perform at their best. The app enables coaches to monitor attendance, training loads, lifting data and player progress, while every athlete undergoes physical testing every 6–8 weeks to measure development and inform future programming. Training is periodised throughout the year and introduces players to more advanced methods including: Position-specific athletic development Hypertrophy Maximum strength Power development Speed development Movement efficiency Injury prevention Mobility & recovery This stage bridges the gap between learning how to train and training to perform. Age Groups U14 & U15 Boys & Girls Weekly Programme Strength & Conditioning Tuesday: 4:00–5:00pm Thursday: 4:00–5:00pm Skills Thursday: 5:00–6:00pm

HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME (HHP)

Accelerating Athletic Development

The High-Performance Programme is designed for our U16 and U18 Open Competition players competing against Scotland's leading independent schools and club environments. This programme mirrors the standards expected within professional academy systems and prepares players for representative rugby and the next stages of the performance pathway. Using the MySynergyCoach App, every athlete follows an advanced, position-specific Strength & Conditioning programme tailored to the demands of their role on the field. Tight five forwards, back-row players, half-backs, midfielders and back-three players all have different physical requirements, and their programmes reflect those demands. Training is fully periodised throughout the season, progressing through structured phases including hypertrophy, maximum strength, power and speed development while carefully managing training load and reducing injury risk. Players benefit from: Position-specific athletic development Hypertrophy blocks Maximum strength Olympic lifting Speed & power development Force production Injury prevention Robustness training Return-to-play progressions Every player is monitored through the MySynergyCoach platform, where all training sessions, lifting data and physical testing are recorded. Performance testing takes place every 6–8 weeks, allowing coaches to objectively measure progress and continually adapt programmes to maximise development. Alongside physical preparation, the programme places significant emphasis on developing high-performance behaviours including: Accountability Professional habits Recovery Nutrition Sleep Workload management Performance education Our objective is simple: to develop stronger, faster, more powerful and more resilient rugby players capable of competing at the highest level. Age Groups U16 & U18 Boys Weekly Training Opportunities Monday 7:00–8:00am (U16/U18) 4:00–5:00pm (U16) 5:00–6:00pm (U18) Tuesday 7:00–8:00am (U16/U18) 5:00–6:00pm (U18) 7:00–8:00pm (U16) Thursday 7:00–8:00am (U16/U18) 5:00–6:00pm (U18) 7:00–8:00pm (U16)
