Fantastic news as 22 Boroughmuir Banshees Selected for Scottish Rugby Inter-District Squads
Boroughmuir is celebrating a fantastic achievement for our girls’ programme, with 22 Banshees selected for Scottish Rugby U16 and U18 Inter-District squads.
The players will have the opportunity to represent their district as part of Scottish Rugby’s Inter-District programme, which brings together players identified through club rugby to train and play alongside new team-mates in representative fixtures.
The first Girls’ U16 and U18 Inter-District festival of the season takes place this Sunday 20 September, bringing together five U18 squads and six U16 squads for a full day of representative rugby.
For Boroughmuir, having 22 players selected across the two age groups is a brilliant reflection of the talent and commitment of the girls coming through the club, as well as the coaches, volunteers and families supporting their development.
Gillian Nimmo, Director of Girls Rugby at Boroughmuir, said: “To have 22 Banshees selected for the Inter-District programme is a fantastic achievement and we’re incredibly proud of every one of them.
“They’ve worked incredibly hard for this opportunity and it will be brilliant to see them representing their districts this weekend. It’s also a proud moment for everyone involved in girls’ rugby at Boroughmuir, from the coaches and volunteers to the families who support our players.
“Most importantly, it shows our younger girls what is possible. We want every girl coming through Boroughmuir to have the opportunity to enjoy their rugby, develop as a player and see a clear pathway ahead of them.”
The Inter-District programme forms an important part of Scottish Rugby’s player development pathway. Performances across the season provide opportunities for players to be identified for the National Talent Pathway, with the programme ultimately helping to inform the Glasgow Warriors and Edinburgh Rugby squads for the Pro-Alignment fixtures after Christmas.
Sunday is the first opportunity of the season for the newly formed squads to take to the pitch, with further Inter-District opportunities to follow as the season progresses.
