Home Tournaments Wrap The Season Up

April and May bring the club rugby season to a close, and this year Boroughmuir built out our end of season offering; hosting three tournaments across the Academy. 

Our long established Mini tournament supported by Morrison Media saw over 600 P1 to P7 children play rugby at Meggetland on 27 April, with matches on every grass pitch across the whole site. Midi-referees got a chance to officiate, coaches got to see their charges pass and tackle, and the kids all had a great time enjoying rugby. Parent volunteers manned stalls to raise money for the club (selling burgers, hotdogs and kit) and club sponsors Pizza Geeks were also on hand to support the hungry players, coaches, parents and supporters!

The following Saturday, the age rose notably as our Under 18s competed at the Jordan Edmunds 7s tournament supported by Deans Properties. We had two teams take part in this, with one being defeated finalists against Strathallan who retained the trophy after winning the inaugural competition last year. Our under 18s also competed away at Melrose making the final there too, but were just unable to get past the Strathallan team again.

Not to be left out, the Under 15s then held the Charlie McLennan 10s tournament on 25 May with GHA edging the Boroughmuir team in the final.  New 1st XV Ball Team sponsors Maki & Ramen kindly donated their delicious food to aid in the day's fundraising.

As a club, we put these tournaments on so that our Academy players get more exposure and experience of rugby - it's at the core of what we do. By delivering these events, we are laying the pathway for player progression, development, and the delivery of our purpose as a registered sports charity that aims to improve the lives of the people living in this community through the provision of sporting and recreational activities.

The club owes a huge debt of gratitude to the parents, coaches and volunteers who made all these events happen. We are also hugely appreciative of the support from club and event sponsors who enable us to deliver such great rugby tournaments for all our members. Thank you all!
