Alex Thomson | 1950 - 2025
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of ex Boroughmuir player, club stalwart, Life member and Hon Vice president, Alex Thomson.
Alex has given outstanding service to Boroughmuir for over40 years and in particular the last 15 when he fulfilled the role of Hon General Secretary.
Alex was a quick footed winger and centre in his day and a fantastic role model for younger players including myself; motivating them at training and ensuring they inherited strong playing values and respect for the game, referees and opposition.
Once retired from playing, Alex took up coaching to support our Youth Academy and also helped our lower senior XVs as a committee man.
Alex was our Hon General Secretary and International Tickets secretary for 15 years and he did all this diligently and without fuss and even finding time to manage the gates, be a steward and look after visiting clubs and officials. Alex had a simple agenda of ensuring our club was governed and protected and that allowed Boroughmuir to grow and blossom. He is an unsung hero of Boroughmuir and we will all miss him.
Alex passed away peacefully on Friday morning 4th April, aged 74.
Alex was a fantastic family man. He was hugely dignified at the passing of his true love, Mary, and our love and thoughts to go out to their kids, Chris, Alisa and Martin, their grandchildren, their extended family and all his close friends at Boroughmuir.
Alex’ funeral will be held at Mortonhall at 1pm on Wednesday 23rd April and then back to Boroughmuir Rugby Club at Meggetland.
Stevie Douglas
Club President
