Boroughmuir Rugby & Community Sports Club (BRCSC) recently held its Annual General Meeting, bringing members together to reflect on a year of growth, challenge, and continued commitment to community sport. The meeting was also a moment to mark a significant leadership transition at the top of the Club.
Boroughmuir is delighted to announce Peter Carruthers as the newly appointed Chair of the BRCSC Board.
Peter takes over from Ally Hay, who steps down after an exceptional 12-year tenure in the role. Ally's time as Chair has been marked by major milestones in club development, deepened community engagement, and sustained sporting success. His leadership has helped shape the Boroughmuir to what it is today.
Club President Stevie Douglas paid tribute to Ally’s contributions: "The whole club is hugely indebted to Ally Hay's contribution as Chairperson over the last 12 years. Without his commitment, diligence and drive, we would not be the successful and vibrant club we are now. I have worked closely with Ally for the last 9 years delivering milestone after milestone and the level and quality of contribution he has realised for our club, its members and community has been immense. Ally fully deserves his Hon Vice President position and recognition."
Stevie also warmly welcomed Peter into the role: "I have huge respect for Peter and the club are so lucky to have someone of his calibre stepping up to take over the tough chairperson's role. Peter is the most organised person I have ever met - strong on what's right and what's wrong, with great judgement and a bit of fun. So although I am gutted to be losing a Vice President, I cannot think of anyone more suitable to take over Ally's role."
Peter himself expressed gratitude and optimism as he begins this new chapter: “I am really excited and grateful to be stepping into the role of Chair of the Boroughmuir Rugby & Community Sports Club. A sincere thank you to my predecessor Ally Hay who did a great job in shaping the club throughout his long tenure. I am now looking forward to working together with the whole team, to keep the momentum going, and to achieve even more great things as a Club in the future.”

I also love the Club's ambition.” Outside the rugby world, Peter’s favourite movie is “The Three Amigos”, favourite place he has visited is Texas. Finally, his favourite Boroughmuir memory is winning the Scottish Championship in 1991.
Looking Ahead
The AGM also included updates on finances, development plans, and the Club’s ongoing commitment to both high-performance sport and broad-based community engagement. It was a good reminder of what makes Boroughmuir special - a shared commitment to progress, connection, and belonging.
We extend our deepest thanks to Ally Hay for his outstanding leadership and service, and we welcome Peter Carruthers with great confidence and enthusiasm.
