Boroughmuir Rugby is proud to look back on a season filled with development, achievement, and community spirit across all levels of the club. From our Senior teams to the youngest members of the Youth Academy, the 2024/25 season highlighted many success.
The season saw continued progress on the pitch with memorable performances and thrilling matches across every age group and team. Whether it was players making their senior debuts, youth teams reaching finals, or our volunteer coaches leading with passion every weekend, Boroughmuir continued to deliver both on the field and in the wider rugby community.
As we wrapped up the season, our annual Awards allow us to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and excellence shown throughout the year. These awards are not just about tries scored or games won - they represent commitment to Boroughmuir.

Comments from Neill Wood - Director of Senior Rugby: The step up to National 1 was a tough test for a lot of players initially. The 1st XV went through a steep learning curve early on in the season in adapting to the more physical pace of this league. Credit must go to the coaches and support staff for making sure the players were as well prepared as possible for the challenges. With games being postponed it meant that in order to survive in the league the team needed to win the last 4 games of the season, all at home, to ensure survival in the league. This was achieved with some exceptional performances in the wins over Jeforest, Highland , Peebles and Biggar. The boys are determined to build on this for next season and plans are well underway to strengthen all areas of the team.
A big thanks must go to departing Head Coach Graham Shiel who is off to pastures new and a huge welcome to new Head Coach Steve Leckie.
The Mighty 2's also finished the season off well in ensuring their place in next season's InterCity Reserve league. A strong 2nd XV is vital for the survival of the club and to make sure the 1st XV players are pushed to achieve better performances. A huge thanks to Peter Wood's tireless efforts this season in heading up the 2nd XV coaching group.
The Steam team (3rd XV) managed to fulfill the majority of their league games in East Reserve 1. This is the first time in over 10 years Boroughmuir has been able to field a 3rd XV. This team every week was a mixture of older gentlemen and young players coming through and put in some fantastic performances, none more than their first home game of the season beating Lasswade 2's. For the club to thrive it's important that as many players as possible enjoy this great game pulling on the Muir shirt every Saturday and Dave Barr and Craig Eccleston are looking forward to next season already. Craig stepped in last season as Head Coach and the ever repressive Davie Barr combined his Vice President Duties with the team manager role for the Steam Team. A huge thanks to all players and helpers.
Scott Freeborn, Director of Youth Rugby, said: It has been another outstanding season for the Boroughmuir Youth Academy, marked by increased player numbers across all age groups, from P1 to U18s and with particularly strong growth in the Banshees girls squads.A highlight of the season has been the significant contribution of our U18 players to the Men's Senior teams, where their impact has been both visible and valuable. Equally rewarding has been the level of regional and national pathway representation achieved by players from both the boys’ and girls’ teams. The dedication and hard work of our players, coaches, and parents have been instrumental in these achievements. We saw even more players join our performance programme and be selected for Regional and National programmes, with our first female representing Scotland at U18 6 Nations.
